A matting for erosion protection of land tracts, such as dunes, beaches and sea beds, comprises a number of uniform elements which are mutually connected. In order to obtain a matting having especially good reinforcing action and good flexibility, at the same time as being relatively cheap to produce, the elements are substantially spherical, cast elements 2 having embedded, protruding fastening parts 3, 4, 5 and 6 by which the spherical elements 2 are mutually connected. The fastening parts 3, 4, 5 and 6 can be formed by rope loops formed on one and the same rope or cable and the spherical elements can be mutually connected by an underlying mesh 1, to which they are each individually tied. <IMAGE>
