PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of wear and heat in both a seat ring and a driven ring so as to obtain a contactless seal having a long life on a rotary shaft, by contactlessly arranging the seat ring and the driven ring while applying a mechanical seal. CONSTITUTION:A spring 15 is provided between a stopper 12 and a driven ring 13, accordingly the driven ring 13 is normally pressed rightward. Compressed air, being jetted from a passage A19, presses the driven ring 13, causing the driven ring 13 to move backward against the spring 15 and form a slight clearance between said ring 13 and a set ring 16. Accordingly, the driven ring 13 is rotated in a contactless condition with the seat ring 16. |
