PURPOSE:To permit easy holding of an optical fiber as well as attaching and detaching thereof in the stage of manufacturing an optical connector by fixing a U-shaped holding means having the inside width slightly smaller than an outside diameter to a vertical holding plate in such a way that the axial fiber of the optical fiber held therein faces the vertical direction. CONSTITUTION:A holding means 7 has a U-shape in a plane view and is formed to have the inside width A smaller by about 0.5mm. from the outside diameter of the sheath 4 of an optical fiber 2. A pair of circular-arciate dents 8 are formed on the inside lateral surface thereof to hold the fiber 2, and the diameter B of the virtual circle formed partly by the wall surface thereof is narrower by about 0.3mm. from the outside diameter of the sheath 4. The means 7 is formed of an elastic material such as an acrylic, butadiene or styrene resin and is adhered and fixed by means of an adhesive perpendicularly to a vertical holding plate 9 in such a way that the axial center of the fiber 2 faces the vertical direction and the U shape is made horizontal. If an adhesive 3 is packed in a core 1 inserted therein with the top end of the fiber 2 and the sheath 4 part is inserted into the means 7 by erecting perpendicularly the fiber 2 with the core 1 faed upward, the means 7 is widened by such constitution and the grasping force is correspondingly generated. The fiber 2 is thus lightly grasped and held in the vertical state. |
