PURPOSE:To enable efficient drainage of a liquid toner after development carried out by feeding the liquid toner, by installing a pressure reducing means for causing negative pressure in the gap between at least one part of the surrounding border of the opening of a developing head. CONSTITUTION:The suction path 11e of a developing head 11 is connected through an suction part 11f to the open air at the end of the path 11e, and provided with a trap 22 on the way and a suction pump 23 at the suction pipe 24 connected to the other end of the path 11e. On the other hand, the suction part 11f of the path 11e can be connected through the gap between the head 11 and a photosensitive material 12 to the lower end of an opening 11b. After development is carried out by feeding a liquid toner 14 and squeeze is finished by feeding a gas, a pressure for pressing the material 12 with a pressing plate 13 for feeding the material 12 is released to open the gap between the material 12 and the head 11, to exert suction force of the pump 23 on this gap, and to drain the liquid drops falling and staying at the lowest end of the opening 11b, and the gas is exhausted through the path 11e, the trap 23, and the pipe 24 to the open air, and excess of the liquid toner 14 on the surface 12a of the material 12 is thoroughly squeezed. |
