PURPOSE:To make it possible to enhance reliability, in an automatic ink replenishing apparatus for replenishing ink to the ink sump of a printing press, by detecting only the lower level of the ink to reduce the error thereof while intermittently performing the supply of high viscosity ink by a quantitative supply means. CONSTITUTION:The lower limit L of the ink amount in an ink sump 1 is detected by a level sensor due to air pressure, ultrasonic waves or light and, when the detection signal thereof continues for a time exceeding the set time of a timer 8, it is judged that a temporary recessed part generated by stirring high viscosity ink showing structural viscosity is not detected and the solenoid 10 of an ink quantitative supply means 9 is opened for a predetermined constant time required in raising an ink level from L to Lu to supply the ink under constant pressure. By this mechanism, the upper limit of the ink level is indirectly set to enable the automatic replenishment of the ink with reliability and the ink can be stably supplied to an ink cylinder through a fountain roller 2. |
