PURPOSE:To enable easy branching and connection without cutting a flat type optical fiber at an optional point by stripping the sheath cord of the optical fiber and bringing a branch optical fiber having an angle of inclination into contact with said part. CONSTITUTION:A flat type optical fiber 1 is coated thereon with a sheath cord 2, and the adequate point of the cord 2 is stripped. A branching and connecting device 3 is mounted in the exposed plane part 1a of the fiber 1 and an optical fiber 5 for branching is penetrated in the device 3. The sloped surface 5a of the fiber 5 is brought into tight contact with the plane part 1a of the fiber 1, by which the two fibers are optically coupled. Then the branching and connecting are accomplished from the optional point on the optical fiber without cutting the fiber and therefore there is the effect of eliminating the laboriousness in cutting once the fiber and connecting or melt sticking the connector thereto as in the prior art. |
