The constant-stroke, variable by-pass, plunger-type, jerk pump injects fuel-oil into the working cylinder of an internal combustion engine. the plunger(2) has a passageway opening(19) at one end leading into the working chamber(16) of the plunger. The passageway is adapted to communicate at its other end with at least one duct connected to the fuel supply and opening into the pump cylinder housing the plunger. This temporarily cuts off the fuel discharged from the chamber to the fuel injector during the upward stroke of the plunger towards its top dead center. The first fuel discharge phase enables the fuel to be preinjected into the engine cylinder whereas the second fuel discharge phase provides for the main injection of fuel.
