Device for measuring horizontal slopes on an article. The device comprises a column 6 of vertical middle direction 5, capable of being immobilised with respect to the article 8 and integrally carrying means 19 for guiding in translation, along a generally vertical direction, for a trolley 14 carrying at least one sensor for measuring the said slopes; it is provided with means 44, 45, 49 for defining the plum of a given point on the trolley 14, means for measuring possible displacements of this plum in the same horizontal plane during the said translation, and means for correcting the measurements of the sensor as a function of those of these measurement means. Application in particular to checking the straightness and the verticality of an article with a height of the order of several metres. <IMAGE>
