PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion resistance of a titled recording medium by vapor-depositing a ferromagnetic metal on a nonmagnetic substrate in an atmosphere containing oxygen to obtain a magnetic layer having a prescribed composition distribution. CONSTITUTION:A ferromagnetic metal (Co) 6 contained in a heating means 7 is vapor-deposited on a polyethylene terephthalate film 2 with about 150Angstrom thickness within a vacuum tank 1 of 3X10<-5> vacuum degree while oxygen is supplied through nozzles 11a, 11b-13a and 13b at incident angles 40 deg., 50 deg. and 70 deg. and flow rates 60, 40 and 15cc/mm. respectively. Thus the regions of large and small densities of oxygen are formed alternately in the thickness direction of a magnetic layer, thereby improving the corrosion resistance. |
