A device for securing a tool (3), the shank (12) of which has a Morse taper, against undesirable release from a shank holder (7) which in a conventional manner has a recess (8), passing transversely through the tapered bore (13) of the shank holder (7), for knocking out an inserted tool (3). The safety device consists of two claws (1, 1') which can be inserted into the recess (8), form a clamping opening, are releasably connected to one another by a screw (2) accessible in the inserted state, and can be adjusted relative to one another for changing the width of the clamping opening. In the inserted state of a tool, the clamping opening reaches behind its rear shank section (14) tapering towards the front and holds the rear shank section (14) in place in a positive-locking and frictional manner. <IMAGE>
