Charge calculation is a very expensive operation in the respective switching system. This also additionally involves the transmission of charges via connection lines for charge meters and coin-operated telephones. In the present invention, only the starting meter pulse is transmitted, e.g. to the coin-operated telephone. The latter itself then contains devices for zone and pulse evaluation. The invention indicates a further variant, in which the zone and the start of the call are transmitted to the terminal device, e.g. the subscriber station. Charge evaluation and storage are then carried out in the latter. The charge is then retrieved for the telecommunications company (e.g. DBP) from the subscriber station. The switching system can be substantially simplified in this way.
