PURPOSE:To obtain a coefficient of wavelength dispersion easily in a laid state by making modulated light incident to an optical fiber, obtaining calculated base band characteristics which are closest to the profile of actual base band characteristics measured at the output terminal, and calculating the coefficient which determines said characteristics. CONSTITUTION:A light signal modulated by a sine wave through an oscillator 21 and an electrooptic converter 22 is made incident to the optical fiber 14 to be measured and the signal appearing at the output terminal is passed through an optoelectric converter 23 to measure its level. The actual measurement data on a selected level meter 24 is plotted to obtain the actual base band characteristics. On the other hand, specific calculated base band characteristics having the profile closest to the actual base band characteristics are calculated by the computer simulation of a processor 25 from plural calculated base band characteristics which have the coefficient (m) of wavelength dispersion as a parameter, and the coefficient M of wavelength dispersion of the optical fiber to be measured is determined on the bases of the coefficient (m). |
