In an electrical high-voltage power circuit breaker having main contacts (1, 2) and having a resistor (5) which can be connected in parallel with the main contacts (1, 2) via resistance contacts (3, 4), the drive has a piston-cylinder arrangement (7) which is supplied from a hydraulic fluid high-pressure source (14), for operating one of these two resistance contacts (3, 4). This drive is intended to be distinguished by a small size in comparison with the power which is to be switched, in conjunction with high reliability, and is nevertheless intended to be capable of being produced cost-effectively. This is achieved in that a further piston-cylinder arrangement (6), to which hydraulic fluid can be applied via a main valve (15), is provided for operating one of the main contacts (1, 2), and in that a control block (25) is connected between the main valve (15) and the piston-cylinder arrangement (7) which is provided for operating the resistance contacts (3, 4), which control block (25) can be controlled as a function of the position of the main (1, 2) and/or resistance contacts (3, 4). Such a circuit breaker is distinguished in that there are no elements which are susceptible to failure, such as jacks, mechanical dampers and couplings. <IMAGE>
