PURPOSE:To display a signal with a target maximum level speedily and automatically by regarding the level of the signal with the maximum level as a reference level and displaying the signal in the center of a desired frequency span. CONSTITUTION:Such a value that the frequency of the maximum-level signal detected by a detecting means 13 is the center frequency of the next sweep signal is set by a center frequency setting means 14. This set value and the value of the frequency span reduced by a specific frequency span through a reduction frequency span setting means 16 are inputted to a sweep signal generating circuit 4 to generate a reduced sweep signal having the maximum level frequency as the center frequency. Consequently, an input signal to be measured is swept at the center frequency set on the basis of the set reference level and with the reduced frequency span and a cycle wherein the span of the sweep is reduced is repeated. Then, the spectrum of the maximum level is displayed when the span attains a desired frequency span. Thus, the signal with the maximum level is displayed speedily and automatically.
