A method of laying a floating floor, in which the complete surface area of an underfloor, onto which the floating floor (composite floor or floating screed floor) is to be applied, is divided mosaic-like into a plurality of individual surfaces having sides of from 0.5 to 3 m, preferably 1.2 m, and the individual surfaces are each singly provided with the floating floor covering, there being provided between the individual surfaces shrinkage joints, which, after curing of the floating floor covering, are filled with a hardenable material. A device for implementing the method, having a plurality of positioning elements, which can be placed on the underfloor or fastened to it for example toy gluing and which are provided on their surfaces facing away from the underfloor with one or more grooves, and having a plurality of strips which can be introduced in a removable fashion into the grooves of the holding elements in order to form a desired lattice pattern (for example grid formation).
