The telephone lock is intended for telephones with dials, to prevent unauthorised dialling and removal of the dial. In order to obtain a telephone lock of minimum size, a cylinder lock (18, 24) is permanently connected to an outer retaining part (26, 28) which has an essentially rigid base plate (28) at a distance equal to the thickness of the dial (10) above the bolt (22) of the lock (18, 24). The underside of the base plate (28) is provided with projections (24, 30, 34, 36) with the aid of which the base plate (28) can be fixed to the dial (10) so that it cannot be rotated nor moved, in the immediate vicinity of a hole (32) only. In the locked condition, in which the bolt (22) of the lock engages behind the dial (10), the base plate (28) rests in a fixed position on the upper side of the dial and on a cover plate (16) which covers its fixing screw (14). A relatively small base plate (28) is sufficient to prevent the removal of the dial (10) from the telephone set. <IMAGE>
