Fuel-heated heat source with a first main heat exchanger and a second auxiliary heat exchanger, in which the waste gas which has flowed through the main heat exchanger is further cooled, with condensate precipitation, and in which both heat exchangers are connected in series for the water of the heating installation and there being arranged between the heat exchangers (4, 16) in the path of the return water to be heated of the heating installation a multiway mixing valve (19). It is thus achieved that the main heat exchanger of the fuel-heated heat source is protected against undesirable effects of the condensate. <IMAGE>
