EXAMPLE:1,1-Dimethyl-4-(3-isopropyl-2-hydroxypropoxy)indane. USE:Having beta-adrenoceptive blocking action, useful as a remedy for arrhythmia, angina pectoris, hypertension, etc. PREPARATION:A compound shown by the formula II is reacted with an epihalohydrin shown by the formula III (X is halogen) in the presence of a base (e.g., NaOH) in the absence of a solvent or in it (e.g., ethanol) preferably at 35-70 deg.C to give a compound shown by the formula IV, which is reacted with an amine shown by the formula NH2-R2 in the absence of a solvent of in it (e.g., ethanol) preferably at 40-70 deg.C to give a compound shown by the formula I .
