The invention relates to an acoustic delay body for ultrasonic test heads which can be readily machined and are designed for working temperatures of a few hundred degrees celsius. The proposed material for these acoustic delay bodies is a glass ceramic, in particular a phlogopite solid solution. The coefficient of thermal expansion of this acoustic delay body material can be predetermined so that it is equal to that of the material of the electroacoustic transducer or to the mean value of the transducer and the material to be tested.
