PURPOSE:To recover vanadium selectively and quantitatively by using a specified tertiary amine as a capturing agent for vanadium in an aqueous soln. CONSTITUTION:A tertiary amine rapresented by a fromula NRR'R'' (where R is 12-24C alkyl or alkenyl, and each of R' and R'' is 1-3C alkyl), e.g., stearylidimethylamine is used as a capturing agent. A substance contg. vanadium such as a used catalyst discharged from a stage for refining petroleum is immersed in an aqueous acid or alkali soln. to leach vanadium, and to the resulting soln. is added 1-5 times as much said tertiary amine as the contained vanadium by weight. The soln. is adjusted to 4-10pH with stirring to deposit flocks. The flocks are taken out, wahsed, and mixed with an aqueous ammonia soln. to separate vanadate from the tertiary amine. The tertiary amine is recovered from the upper layer, and the vanadate is recovered from the aqueous layer.
