PURPOSE:To manufacture a metallic fiber containing V-shaped bent parts, having excellent adhesive strength, and suitable for mixing in concrete, plastics, etc. to obtain a reinforced composite material, by melt sprinning a metal using a cooling member having V-shaped grooves on the surface. CONSTITUTION:A metallic short fiber containing at least one V-shaped bent part is manufactured by transferring a cooling member furnished periodically with two ore more kinds of V-shaped surface grooves V1, V2 having different shape and/or size, and making a jet of molten metal or alloy (e.g. Fe72Cr8P13C7, etc.) to collide with the surface of the cooling member, thereby quenching and solidifying the molten metal jet. Preferably, the length l of the objective short fiber is 3-50mm., the height of the V-shaped bent part (h) is 0.1-3mm., and the opening of the bent part (a) is 0.1-2mm.. The shape and dimensions of the V- shaped groove of the cooling member are preferably, h1=0.1-3mm., a1=0.1-2mm., alpha1=10-60 deg., beta1=10-90 deg., h2=0.3-5mm., a2=0.5-3mm., alpha2=30-90 deg. and beta2=20- 90 deg..
