PURPOSE:To obtain an optical transmission fiber which is free from stripping of a sleeve material, etc. and has a small transmission loss by using a polymer consisting essentially of methyl methacrylate as a core material and coating the cladding material formed by bringing a specific fluorine compd. into reaction with a polymer having a glycidyl group on said material. CONSTITUTION:A cladding material is obtd. by bringing a polymer contg. >=30mol% the monomer expressed by the formulas I , II [X is H or CH3, Y is F or H, (m) is 0-2, (n) is 1-12] into reaction with a (co)polymer having an epoxy group at one side chain and fluorinated alcohol or fluorinated fatty acid. On the other hand, a resin rod 22 for a core material contg. >=90mol% methyl methacrylate is prepd. Said rod is spun through a heater 15 and a cooling part 16 and is passed through a vessel 17 contg. the above-described cladding material soln. to coat the resin soln. on the core material. The coated material is dried by a drying column 18 and is taken up on a take-up 20 via a nip roller 19. The optical transmission fiber which is coated thereon with the cladding material having high adhesive strength to the core material and has a small transmission loss is thus obtd. |
