PURPOSE:To grind inline a work roll to a prescribed roll shape with high accuracy by controlling a grinder in accordance with the detected value of the ruggedness on the roll surface and the detected value of the displacement in the roll position. CONSTITUTION:The ruggedness on the surface of a work roll 1 is detected with the pulse signal from a position pulse detector 17 for detecting a rotating position as a trigger by displacement detectors 10a-c attached to a detector mounting base 11 which moves in an arrow X direction by the operation of a motor 12 and a screw bar 9 in a rolling mill provided with the roll 1 supported freely rotatably by roll chocks 2a, 2b. The run-out of the roll shaft is further detected by displacement detectors 15a, 15b having sensors for detecting the roll position. The values detected with the above-mentioned detectors are inputted to an operational processing unit 19, by which the profile on the straightness in the axial direction of the roll is determined. The grinding body 6 of a roll grinder 7 which can move in arrow X, Y directions is controlled in accordance with said profile and the roll 1 is inline ground. |
