PURPOSE:To realize a display of a half tone as a whole by dividing a picture element into plural electrodes, and executing independently a display of white or black in each electrode. CONSTITUTION:An electrode of one picture element 14 is divided into an electrode 17 shown by oblique lines and other electrode 18. The electrode 17 occupies 1/3 of the picture element, and the electrode 18 occupies 2/3 of the picture element. Gray (density 1/3) is obtained by generating a white color by making the electrode 17 and 18 in white, and subsequently, making the electrode 17 in black and making the electrode 18 in white. Also, dark gray (density 2/3) is obtained by making the electrode 17 in white and making the electrode in black. Black is obtained by making the electrodes 17, 18 in black, and four gradiations of (0), 1/3, 2/3 and (1) can be displayed. |
