PURPOSE:To retrieve quickly a desired picture by displaying each reduced picture corresponding to the picture directories on a display device. CONSTITUTION:The picture directories Id1, Id2... corresponding to master key words I1, I2... respectively are read out of a picture file device by designation of those master key words and displayed in each prescribed area of a screen S of a display device. At the same time, the reduced picture data corresponding to the picture data D1, D2, D3... recorded previously in the areas E1, E2, E3... of the directories Id1, Id2, Id3... are read out respectively. Thus the reduced pictures i1, i2, i3... are displayed in the areas corresponding to each display position of the picture directories of the screen S. Thus an operator can retrieve a desired picture while reading the contents of each picture directory and with reference to each reduced picture. |
