A voltage regulator for a charging generator comprising an a.c. generator (1,7), a rectifier (2, 4) for converting the a.c. output of the a.c. generator to a d.c., a battery (3) connected to the output of the rectifier (2, 4), comparison means (10, 11, 12) for comparing the battery voltage with a reference voltage (V<Sub>R</Sub>) of a reference voltage generation circuit (9) and a power transistor (2) controlled by the output of the comparison means (10, 11, 12) and controlling a current flowing through a field coil (7) of the a.c. generator.

The reference voltage generation circuit comprises a voltage divider (41-45) connected to a constant voltage power source (ZD) and providing its divided voltage as the reference voltage (VR), a plurality of transistors (51-53) connected in parallel with a part of the voltage divider (41-45), and conduction control means (61-63,71-76,81-90) for controlling the transistors (51-53) in accordance with the ambient temperature so that the reference voltage (VR) is determined in accordance with the ambient temperature.
