PURPOSE:To improve rising response by accelerating the temp. rising speed of a solid electrolyte element, by reducing the diameter of the cylindrical solid electrolyte element in the gas detecting side thereof while increasing the diameter thereof in the gas non-detecting side thereof. CONSTITUTION:A zirconia solid electrolyte element 2 is reduced in the cylinder diameter thereof of a gas detecting side as compared with that of a gas non- detecting side and electrodes 3, 4 and a porous protective film 5 are respectively provided to the inner surface of said element in the atmosphere side thereof and the outer surface thereof in the exhaust gas side thereof as is conventional. By this constitution, because the zirconia solid electrolyte element 2 is provided in a tapered form, heat capacity becomes small while the time required in bringing the temp. of an oxygen concn. detector to an operation temp. becomes short and rising response becomes well. In addition, because the part where the electrodes are provided has a tapered shape, the contact area with air in the pipe becomes large as compared with a straight pipe and the detection accuracy of oxygen concn. can be made well. Furthermore, because a diameter is large in the side of a support 1, strength same to conventional one is secured. |
