A process for producing and recovering a C2 to C6 alcohol, which comprises contacting water and a C2 to C6 olefin with a hydration catalyst comprising an acidic ion exchange resin in a reaction zone under reaction conditions, said reaction zone containing multiple water quench points and multiple olefin injection points, and counter-currently contacting the reaction product with a solvent to extract the C2 to C6 alcohols therefrom.
