NEW MATERIAL:Monoazo compounds of formula I wherein X is halogen; Y is a group of formula II or III; Z is a group which can be removed by an alkali; A is (substd.) phenylene, (substd.) naphthylene; R1, R2 are each H, (substd.) alkyl with the proviso that at least one thereof is always (substd.) alkyl; R3 is H, methyl, sulfo; R4 is H, cyano, carbamoyl, sulfo, sulfoalkyl; R5 is (substd.) alkyl, (substd.) aralkyl, cyclohexyl. EXAMPLE:Compound of formula IV. USE:Dyes which dye cotton, flax, regenerated cellulosic fiber, wool, silk, leather and polyamide fibers clear yellow with excellent fastness to light, perspiration, sunlight, washing, etc. PREPARATION:An arom. sulfonic acid of formula V (wherein R2, R3 are as defined above) and a compd. of formula VI (wherein R1, A, Y are as defined above) are condensed with a trihalogenotriazine of formula VII. The resulting compd. of formula VIII is diazotized and coupled with a pyridone derivative of formula IX (wherein R4, R5 are as defined above) to obtain the compd. of formula I .
