PURPOSE:The titled composition capable of forming a hard coating of excellent scratch resistance, heat resistance, weather resistance, and dyeability on a resin article, comprising a hydrolyzate of an epoxy group-containing trialkoxysilane, colloidal silica, and a metal chelate compound. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. mixture of a hydrolyzate of an epoxy group-containing trialkoxysilane (e.g., beta-glycidoxyethyltrimethoxysilane) and colloidal silica having a particle diameter of about 5-150mu (Snowtex-O, a product of Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd.) at a weight ratio of about 100:10-250 is mixed with 0.00001- 10pts.wt. tetravalent zirconium, trivalent indium or trivalent iron chelate compound coordinated with a chelating agent (e.g., ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, hexafluoroacetylacetone, or ethyl acetoacetate).
