PURPOSE:A modified polyvinyl ester excellent in adhesion to inorganic substances (e.g., gypsum boards, glass, or ceramics), prepared by introducing alkyl sulfoxide groups. CONSTITUTION:A polyvinyl compound comprising 0.1-60mol% structural unit of formula I (wherein R1 is a 1-5C alkyl), 0-99.9mol% structural unit of formula II (wherein R2 is H or a 1-10C alkyl), and 0-99.9mol% structural unit of formula III, and having a limiting viscosity (in water or acetone at 30 deg.C)>=0.1dl/ g.
