The invention relates to a shelter for the nuclear, biological and chemical protection of a small group of people, wherein the shelter is a metal tank with a horizontal axis and comprising a cylindrical body provided at its ends with convex end walls, one of which is annular and extended by a coaxial tubular passage which opens on one side into an air lock and on the other side into a metal shaft opening into the open air through a manhole closed by a grating, a second air lock being disposed in the shaft and its door being offset laterally with respect to the vertical projection of the grating. The tank, at least, is covered with a protecting slab of reinforced concrete which is preferably fast with a coating of reinforced concrete on the tank and which is covered with earth and rubble.
