PURPOSE:To obtain steel for a pressure vessel having high strength and toughness and capable of ensuring superior characteristic values of strength and toughness even by postwelding heat-treatment by adding a small amount of Cr and persscribed precentages of Nb and/or V to a C-0.5Mo. steel. CONSTITUTION:This steel for a pressure vessel having high strength and toughness is obtd. by adding, by weight 0.003-0.05% Nb and/or 0.005-0.07% V to 0.07-0.25% C, 0.10-0.50% Si, 0.40-0.90% Mn, 0.05-0.40% Cr, 0.40-0.65% Mo, <=0.030% P, <=0.020% S and 0.005-0.07% solAl as basic components. The steel ensures sufficient strength and toughness after postwelding heat-treatment (PWHT), and it is suitable for use as a material for a prssure vessel having high strength and toughness.
