PURPOSE:To prevent the buckling and deformation of endless blets owing to the contact with a molte steel and to improve the surface characteristic of a billet by fixing heaters,spaced from each other, on the outside circumferential surfaces of a pair of upper and lower rolls near a nozzle and preheating the upper and lower endless belts. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel cast between upper and lower endless belts 5 from a nozzle 5 is cooled from the upper and lower directions thereof by the belts 5 and is also cooled from the right and left directions by right and left supporting and cooling members 11, by which the molten steel is made into an unsolidified billet 12. The billet is then continuously drawn from the nozzle 2 in synchronization with the belts 5. The belts 5, 5 set on upper end lower rolls 3, 4 near the nozzle are preheated by heaters 11, 11 in this stage. The quick heating of the belts 5, 5 is thus prevented even if the belts contact with the molten steel in the top end part of the nozzle 2 and therefore the belts 5, 5 are kept free from buckling and deforming. |
