The machine separates roofing tiles from a stack in which they are placed edgewise. It has a stack conveyor and a transfer mechanism with a gripper delivering the individual tiles onto a further conveyor. The transfer mechanism (3) has toggle levers, whose lower arms (4b) swing on a fixed axis (5) under the action of a crank drive (6,7). The gripper (8a,8b) is mounted in the upper arms (4a) at the ends nearest to their hinge connection to the bottom ones. The free ends of the upper arms slide in vertical guides.
