PURPOSE:The titled composition forming a film having extremely improved water resistance, obtained by adding a specific amount of colloidal silica to an aqueous emulsion containing a specific copolymer prepared by subjecting a vinylsilane and an acrylic monomer to emulsion polymerization with a polymerizable emulsifying agent. CONSTITUTION:(A) 100pts.wt. solid material of an aqueous emulsion containing a copolymer having <=70 deg.C glass transition temperature, obtained by subjecting (i) a vinylsilane (preferably-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane), (ii) an acrylic monomer (preferably 1-12C acrylic acid alkyl ester, etc.), and, preferably (iii) another copolymerizable monomer (e.g., styrene, etc.) to emulsion polymerization using (iv) a polymerizable emulsifying agent such as an alkali salt of an alkylallyl sulfosuccinate shown by the formula (R<1> is 8-20C alkyl), is blended with (B) 20-400pts.wt. colloidal silica, to give the desired composition. Preferably 1- 10pts.wt. component i is used based on 100pts.wt. total amount of the components ii and iii.
