Decontamination of the guide tubes of a nuclear reactor by the known electropolishing process. In order also to decontaminate the inner wall of the guide tubes 10, which are generally hollow, a so-called internal additional electrode 22 is arranged inside the latter, surrounded by insulating members 24, so as to avoid any electrical contact between it and the tube, which is connected by filamentary connecting means 18 to the opposite pole of a current generator. The guide tube is then rinsed by immersion in demineralised water and then by spraying jets of water under pressure, and is finally dried by blowing hot air. A remotely controlled device transfers the guide tube from one treatment vessel to the other, the latter being surrounded by a lead hood forming a protective screen. <IMAGE>
