Process for preparing a binder for refractory compositions

A binder for refractory compositions having a long storage period is formed by the reaction of phosphoric acid, pyridine bases and a polyhydric aliphatic alcohol having 2 to 3 carbon atoms at 40 to 100 DEG C, cooling of the reaction product and distilling off water. The binder can be used for alumina-containing and also for acidic refractory compositions.
