PURPOSE:To obtain the titled latex stable to ions and resistant to yellowing, by carrying out the emulsion polymerization of a part of a monomer mixture in the presence of an anionic surface active agent to obtain a seed latex, adding a nonionic surface active agent and the rest part of the monomer mixture to the seed latex, and subjecting e mixture to emulsion polymerization. CONSTITUTION:A part of a mixture of copolymerizable monomers composed mainly of vinylidene chloride is subjected to emulsion polymerization using 0.05- 0.5pts.wt., based on 100pts.wt. of the monomer mixture, of an anionic surface active agent to obtain a seed latex. The seed latex is added with a part of a nonionic surface active agent, and the remaining part of the monomer mixture is added to the mixture continuously or in a lump. The remaining part of the nonionic surface active agent is added to the system after the addition of the monomer mixture when the mixture is added in a lump, or parallel to the addition of the mixture when it is added continuously. The total amount of the nonionic surface active agent is 1.5-3pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. of the monomer mixture. The emulsion polymerization of the mixture is carried out while adding the nonionic surface active agent to the system to obtain the objective latex.
