The seed sowing machine with operating elements attached to a beam which projects for a substantial distance each side of the path travelled by the tractor which pulls it, has the beam divided into three sections (2,4,5). These are interconnected by a linkage so that the two other sections (4,5) can be swung upwards and inwards above the central section (2) for travelling through confined spaces when not being operated. Each outer section has a sloping arm (18) projecting from it, connected by a hinge (23) to a rod (20) attached at its other end to an upper connecting frame on top of the central section (2). Connected to the outer end of each outer section is a hinged joint (30) for a furrow shaper (24) which projects even further outwards from the machine when in use. Each shaper is swung upwards into the stowed position, and is attached to a hinged arm (13) which is vertical in this position, and horizontal when the machine is operating. A cable connects the furrow shaper with the sloping arm (18).
