PURPOSE:A liquid crystal composition having high-speed responce ability in a low-temperature range, and low variation in threshold voltage, containing a specific phenylcyclohexane liquid crystal, phenylcyclohexane ester liquid crystal, and biphenylcyclohexane liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:The desired liquid crystal composition containing (A) a phenylceylohexane liquid crystal shown by the formula I (R1 is alkyl), (B) a phenylcyclohexane ester liquid crystal shown by the formula II (R3 is alkyl), (C) a biphenylcyclohexane liquid crystal shown by the formula III, and, preferably (D) a cyanobiphenyl liquid crystal shown by the formula IV(R4 is alkyl) or (E) a terphenyl liquid crystal shown by the formula V (R5 is alkyl). In the composition, preferably the amount of the component A is 10-60wt%, the amount of the component B is 5-40wt%, the amount of the component C is 10-50wt%, a weight ratio of the component A:B is (95:5)-(20:80), and a weight ratio of the component A:C is (90:10)-(10:90). USE:Useful for display device using dynamic drive method.
