In the shut-off device concerned, a separating part (T) presses against a seal (D1) in the closed condition and brings about hermetic separation of the two pipe sections (R1 and R2). During an opening or closing operation, the separating part (T) is raised from the seal (D1) by means of guides (F1, F2) to an extent such that impermissible sliding friction does not occur. In order to avoid ingress of dirt, the guides (F1, F2) are of annular design and are pressed against one another or against a separating part (T) continuously by means of springs. The shut-off device is suitable for operation with suction or pressure in either direction of the pipe. <IMAGE>
