A locking device for a sash window or a sliding door has an outer rectangular frame which is fixed to a wall and within which is arranged displaceably a second rectangular frame, itself equipped with a glass pane or the like. The locking device is provided within one side of the inner frame and comprises a sliding part, a bolt, by means of which the sliding part is movable and lockable, a safety pin which is fixed to the sliding part and which can engage into the outer frame and then locks the two frames to one another, and a bolt which is accessible through a bolt orifice formed in the side of the inner frame. The bolt orifice is equipped with a widened locking segment and with a narrower adjacent unlocking segment, the bolt having a closing peg, fastened to the sliding part, and a knob which is fastened displaceably to the closing peg and which is of such dimensions that it can extend through the widened locking segment of the bolt orifice. A helical spring surrounding the closing peg presses the knob into the widened locking segment when the safety pin is in the locking position, with the result that the bolt and the sliding part are then held in a vibration-proof position, specifically until the bolt knob ... through the widened ...
