PURPOSE:To enable the constant supply of accurate uniform weight of tea leaves, by measuring the apparent density of the tea leaves in weighing stage, and controlling the feeding rate of the tea feeding apparatus accordong to the density. CONSTITUTION:Tea leaves are charged in the weighing box 13, the sensor switch such as a phototube 19, etc. attached to the box 13 is moved and fixed at a height corresponding to the desired weight W kg of the tea leaves, the inner volume of the box (Vm<3>) below the switch 19 is calculated, and the feeding rate (U) of the tea feeding apparatus 1 is set according to the required amount of tea leaves to be processed in the steaming apparatus 2. The charging door 10 is opened to transfer the tea leaves to the feeding apparatus, the box 13 is emptied, and the charging of tea leaves to the box is started at a nearly constant rate. At the same time, the counters 29, 30 are started to obtain the time (t) until the sensor switch 19 detects the tea leaves, and the time (T) until W kg of tea leaves are charged to the box. When a definite time (S) (S>T) has been elapsed, the tea leaves charged in the box 13 is transferred to the feeding apparatus, and the feeding rate of the apparatus is corrected to UXT/t. The process is repeated each time the required weight (W kg) is weighed.
