The apparatus permits the turning of pages of sheet music, books and the like without use of the hand, for example by actuation of a pedal or a foot-operated switch. It can easily be attached to all upright pianos, grand pianos, harmoniums, music stands and lecterns. All the functions necessary for reliable page turning are provided by a special position of the axis 5 of rotation of an angled turning arm 7 equipped with a gripper element 12. First, the right-hand page is gripped at its right-hand edge, and it is then raised and simultaneously curled so that any possibly adhering second page is detached, then it is swung over to the left-hand side and tensioned towards the end of the swinging movement. Subsequently, the gripper element is detached from the sheet and the turning arm moves away to the left. A plurality of page-turning appliances are described, which differ, in particular, in having different contact adhesive rollers as the gripper element. <IMAGE>
