At least one main switching point and, in parallel, a series circuit consisting of an auxiliary switching point and a switching-on resistor, are provided. The main switching point is arranged in a first space and the auxiliary switching point is arranged with the switching-on resistor in a second space. Both spaces are filled with an insulating gas under pressure. In order to keep the decomposition products of the insulating gas away from the switching-on resistor, which decomposition products are produced by a switching arc occurring on the main switching point, without increasing the additional equipment cost for monitoring the condition of the insulating gas, the first space is connected in flow terms to the second space via a valve (33), which closes towards the second space in the event of a pressure drop, and via a restrictor opening (35), a filter (32) which contains an adsorber material, being arranged downstream from the valve (33) and the restrictor opening (35), in the direction of the second space. <IMAGE>
