PURPOSE:To prevent life decrease which generates as plates become high by assembling a lead-acid battery with plates in which only upper part is discharged and charging them after electrolyte is poured so that electrolyte concentration in the upper part of an electrode group is higher than that in the lower part of it. CONSTITUTION:Electrolyte is held in a plate 3 and a fine glass fiber mat 2. After formation, the upper part A of anode plate and cathode plate 3 is discharged, for example, in a cndition that the lower part of the plate is covered. Since part A of the plate 3 is discharged, part of active material exists as lead sulfate. Electrolyte of lower concentration than that of electrolyte after charging is poured from an electrolyte pouring hole 4. When a battery is charged, sulfuric acid is generated in the upper part of the plate and electrolyte concentration of part A becomes high. Electrolyte concentration in the upper part of the electrode group is higher than that in the lower part in addition to the electrolyte holding ability of fine glass fiber mat. In a battery having a plate height of 15cm or more, life is increased about 40%. |
