For use for the surface structuring of plastics laminates, coated wood chipboards, etc., the metal sheets or the like are successively ground, mirror-polished, if necessary structured, chromium-electroplated, polished again as required, and finally cleaned. To give the plastics laminates a lacquer-like appearance by means of such metal sheets, it is proposed according to the invention to polish the metal sheet again after the mirror-polishing or structuring, and then to clean it, before it is chromium-plated and exposed to the subsequent processes, in order to achieve an effect of grinding. The last polishing treatment is appropriately undertaken to produce an effect of grinding.
