A rope is formed from a single strand (18) or several twisted strands. It comprises at least one false selvedge of weaving (9) twisted with the rope, this false selvedge comprising a woven band (6a) and a fringe (7a) of free weft or warp threads or narrow strips coming from this woven band and edging one side thereof, the false selvedge being associated with the rope (21) by its woven band (6a) so that said free threads or narrow strips form hairs around the rope. The false selvedges are manufactured industrially by cutting a special cloth comprising woven longitudinal bands alternating with longitudinal bands of weft threads or narrow strips free of warp threads or narrow strips. The false selvedges are associated with the strands so as to obtain a shaggy rope, by using either a stranding machine, (12,14,15,17) then a twisting machine, or a stranding-twisting machine, a guide (19) for feeding the false selvedge onto the strands being provided in each case. <IMAGE> |
