PURPOSE:To make it possible to enhance printing quality, in a heat sensitive type printer, by selecting one of heat sensitive paper and plain paper by changing over a printing paper selecting switch to set the duty of a printing pulse corresponding to the selected one. CONSTITUTION:A control means discriminates heat sensitive paper or plain paper by the opening and closing of a paper selecting switch. In the heat sensitive paper, when the non-charging of a film ink ribbon cassette 7 is detected by the OFF-state of a microswitch 8, printing is performed by the duty of a printing pulse suitable for the heat sensitive paper. In this case, when the cassette 7 is charged, a buzzer issues an alarm. On the other hand, in the plain paper, when the film ink ribbon cassette 7 is charged to a carriage 6, an actuator 8a is pushed to turn the microswitch 8 ON and printing is performed by the duty of the printing pulse suitable for the plain paper. By this mechanism, printing quality and power efficiency can be enhanced and the life of a head can be prolonged. |
